Study Materials and Resources for JEE – Insights from CFAL Alumnus, JEE Topper Samanth Martis

Samanth Martis, a JEE topper from CFAL currently pursuing Aerospace Engineering at IIT Bombay  has generously shared his insights into the study materials, resources, and tips that helped him succeed in one of India’s toughest entrance exams. If you’re preparing for JEE or looking for the best JEE preparation tips, here’s what Samanth recommends:

  • Choose the Right Study Materials – Focus on One Good Book Per Subject

One of the most common mistakes JEE aspirants make is trying to study from too many books. Samanth advises against this:

“You don’t need to find the ‘best’ book for JEE—most popular books are good enough. What matters is how you use them. Pick one reliable book for each subject and complete it thoroughly. Avoid buying 20 books that you won’t read—focus on finishing one completely for the subject you want to master.”

For organic chemistry, Samanth highly recommends Wiley’s Solomons, Fryhle & Snyder Organic Chemistry for JEE (Main & Advanced). This book stood out to him because it not only helped with memorization but also taught the underlying principles and mechanisms behind the reactions. This depth of understanding is crucial for success in JEE.

For maths, Samanth found the “Black Book” (formally known as Advanced Problems in Mathematics for JEE) very helpful, as it provided a challenging set of problems to sharpen his skills for JEE Advanced.

Leverage Online Resources – YouTube and Exam Platforms

Samanth also highlights the importance of utilizing online resources:

“YouTube was a lifesaver. Channels like Unacademy provided crash courses and full lecture videos that made it easier to break down difficult concepts. There’s no better feeling than learning the Wolf-Kishner reaction mechanism just four hours before a test!”

If you’re looking for JEE preparation tips or struggling with a specific topic, platforms like YouTube can be incredibly helpful, offering crash courses and last-minute revision materials.

In addition to YouTube, Samanth also relied on a site called Examgoal:

“I highly recommend Examgoal. Get the premium version—it’s affordable (₹40 for half a year) and gives you access to a lot of past year questions (PYQs) and practice papers, with clear explanations. This was a game-changer for me during JEE preparation.”

Organization Tips for JEE Preparation

Effective time management and organization are crucial when preparing for competitive exams like JEE. While many students rely on planner apps, Samanth found a simpler method worked better for him:

“Planner apps didn’t really work for me. Instead, I made Post-it notes of important concepts and tasks and stuck them on the wall next to my study space. This made it easy to revise key topics while doing daily activities, like brushing my teeth, and kept tasks visible so I wouldn’t forget them.”

CFAL Guidance and Support

Samanth’s success is a testament to his hard work, but he is quick to acknowledge the role that CFAL’s resources and mentorship played in his journey:

“The structure and guidance at CFAL were instrumental in my preparation. The teachers were always available to clarify doubts, and their ability to break down complex concepts helped me develop a deep understanding of the subjects. The rigorous testing and personalized feedback at CFAL kept me focused and on the right path throughout my JEE preparation.”

At CFAL, we provide our students with the best possible resources and guidance to ensure their success. From personalized mentorship to comprehensive study materials, we equip our students with everything they need to excel in competitive exams like JEE.

Final Advice for JEE Aspirants

Samanth Martis leaves future JEE aspirants with this advice:

“Stay consistent and focused on your studies. Don’t get overwhelmed by the number of resources available—just stick to a few key ones and dive deep into them. Also, make time for revision and don’t forget to take breaks when needed. Finally, take advantage of CFAL’s guidance—it made all the difference in my journey.”

We hope that Samanth’s insights and tips will inspire and guide current and future JEE aspirants as they embark on their own preparation journeys. Remember, with the right resources, a focused approach, and the guidance provided at CFAL, you too can achieve your academic goals!
