Policy for Addressing Poor Academic Performance in Students

Policy for Addressing Poor Academic Performance in Students

Purpose: The purpose of this policy is to provide clear procedures and guidelines to be followed in the event of a student demonstrating poor academic performance.

Policy:

1. Performance Monitoring:

The administrators will regularly monitor and review student performances. All subject teachers, along with the administrators, are responsible for identifying any noticeable decline in a student’s academic performance.

2. Interdepartmental Review:

If a student is consistently underperforming across all subjects, this issue should be escalated to the respective Head of Departments (HODs) and the Principal for a more comprehensive review.

3. Involvement of Student Welfare Officer (SWO):

Once the issue is escalated, the SWO should be involved to evaluate whether there are any external factors contributing to the student’s poor performance.

4. Development of Personalized Learning Plan:

After discussing with the HODs, Principal, and SWO, a personalized learning plan should be developed to assist the student. This plan could include extra tutoring, adjusted teaching methods, or counseling services, based on the individual student’s needs.

5. Parental Communication:

Parents should be informed about their child’s academic situation and the proposed action plan. A meeting should be set up involving the parents, the Principal, and relevant teachers to discuss the situation and solicit their support for the action plan.

6. Review and Adjust:

The student’s progress following the implementation of the personalized learning plan should be regularly reviewed and adjustments made where necessary.

7. Maintaining Regular Communication:

  1. Regular communication with parents is essential to ensure that they are kept up-to-date on their child’s progress and any modifications to the learning plan.

By adhering to this policy, we hope to provide an effective and supportive response to poor academic performance and encourage every student to reach their full potential.
