Insights from NEET Toppers: Shreyas Shenoy’s Batch Shares Their Success Strategies

Hello, CFAL students!

As someone who has walked in your shoes and witnessed the journey to NEET success, I’m excited to share some insights and strategies that helped us excel. Recently, a few of us from the alumni group had the opportunity to gather feedback from NEET toppers, and we believe these tips can significantly enhance your study programs and boost your preparation.

Top 10 Strategies from NEET Toppers

  1. Embrace Subchapter Tests

Feedback: We realized that chapter tests alone aren’t enough. They can be too broad and sometimes miss the finer points.

Action: Incorporate subchapter-specific tests into your routine. These should be about 30 minutes long with 15-30 problems, and you should aim to take them daily or very regularly. This approach will help you master each topic thoroughly before moving on.

  1. Kickstart Part Test Series Early

Recommendation: Starting part tests by September is crucial. This way, you can focus intensively on 1st PU or 2nd PU material and build a strong foundation.

Action: Make it a priority to take numerous tests on 2nd PU material before September. This will give you ample time to cover all the essential topics comprehensively.

  1. Focus on Remedial Work

Feedback: Tackling additional problem sets for chapters where performance is lacking can be incredibly beneficial.

Action: Create remedial work targeted at your mistakes. Identify areas where you struggle during exams and develop problem sets that address these weaknesses. This targeted practice can significantly improve your understanding and performance.

  1. Practice with Past Papers

Recommendation: Repeatedly attempting past 7-10 years’ papers can enhance your speed and exam familiarity.

Action: Schedule time to solve 35 years of previous year questions (PYQs) on a chapter-wise basis. This will help you get into the mindset of the examiners and understand the evolution of question patterns over the years.

  1. Maintain Error Correction Notebooks

Tool: Keep a dedicated notebook for frequently forgotten points and common mistakes.

Action: Regularly update and review this notebook. Revising these notes consistently will reinforce your learning and minimize recurring errors, helping you retain crucial information better.

  1. Regular Full Test Administration

Timeline: Full-length tests should be a regular part of your preparation from November to December.

Action: Focus on post-test analysis to identify and understand your mistakes. This continuous improvement process will enhance your test-taking strategies and time management skills.

  1. Utilize Recommended NEET Resources

Websites: Platforms like NEETPrep.com, are invaluable for study materials and practice tests.

Books:

  • Biology: “Biohack” for a line-by-line review and supplementary practice questions.
  • Inorganic Chemistry: Study NCERT text thoroughly with guided student sessions.
  • Organic Chemistry: “Basics of Organic Chemistry” by Paras Thakur.
  • Physical Chemistry: BSM materials.
  • Physics: “Physics Galaxy” by Ashish Arora.
  • Biology: “Objective Bio NEET” from Cengage for comprehensive question practice.
  1. Prioritize NCERT Material Practice

Feedback: While top professors cover NCERT level material, extra practice is necessary to improve speed and approach different problems effectively.

Action: Make extensive practice with NCERT material a part of your study routine. It’s essential to build a strong foundation and gain proficiency in the basics.

  1. Tackle Exemplars

Recommendation: Attempting all problems from the NCERT exemplars is crucial for thorough preparation.

Action: Incorporate these problems into your study plan to enhance your problem-solving skills across various scenarios.

  1. Stay Focused on Relevant Materials

Note: For NEET, some resources used for JEE, like J.D. Lee’s book for Chemistry, might not be necessary.

Action: Stick to the materials that are specifically recommended for NEET preparation to avoid overwhelming yourself with information that might not be directly useful.

We hope these insights help you navigate your NEET preparation more effectively. Here’s a quick summary of what to focus on:
